TOLEDO

The View: Toledo brought in a huge haul of 26 players from eight different states and signed what most Rocket experts consider to be the school’s best class in history. Super size, talent, speed and playmakers are a plenty in this group. The headliner is RB Quinton Broussard from Texas. He made the Class A (big School) First Team, had numerous offers from Big Twelve & Big Ten schools, and was listed by Max Emfinger’s Blue Chip Recruiting as the #21 speed back in the country. Along with him, Astin Martin, the #25 rated player and all-state performer in Michigan brings his 4.3 speed to the Glass City, along with hometown recruit, Rodney Gamby, Ohio’s Division II POY. Speed is the name of this class as 15 players run a 4.5 or better. Toledo also tagged Jamar Landrum, Michigan’s #12 rated player, and one of the top DBs in the Midwest who turned down several Big Ten offers. Overall, Toledo signed five of Michigan’s top 50 players. In a new turn for Toledo, areas like Georgia, Utah, New York state and Kansas were tapped. QB Cedric Stevens is a big time prospect who turned down West Virginia and Kansas while Pittsburgh area’s Perry Ivery was the WPIAL Class A POY, also committed to UT with other name schools courting his services. Quality linemen were needed to replace the seven departed seniors and UT found some gems in Dontreil Coates & Lantz Judy. Both are big men who run under a 5.0/40 and should be effective right away to play. DEs Muhammad Abdullah & Jerome Walker are both late bloomers who are still growing and have unlimited potential. Another quality player Toledo signed was DB Antonio Malone, who was rated the #19 player in Ohio and has 4.45 speed.

Analysis: No school in the conference needed more help in this class to counter a huge group of talented departed seniors and no school but UCF signed the impact class that the Rockets accomplished. Also, when you consider that the Rockets beat out schools from the Big Ten, Big East, SEC, ACC and Big Twelve for numerous players, the class is even more impressive. Toledo addressed all of their needs in the QB DL, WR and RB positions with top flight players. I rate this class OUTSTANDING and here is a little ditti to ponder about Coach Amstutz and his staff. Two players in this class were visiting other MAC schools and called the coach from their cell phones to commit to UT right on the spot. That’s impressive.
