BOWLING GREEN The View: Second year Coach Urban Meyer signed 26 players from ten states in a very well balanced recruiting class that may very well be the schools best ever. Meyer wanted kids who were winners, and 18 of these 26 players participated in state playoff games. There are several standout players here, but this class also fits the immediate needs for the Falcons this fall. Needing some experience on the offensive line to replace several graduated players, Meyer signed three quality California JUCOs who will be able to step in and play right away. The standouts I see from this class are LB Jason Kaminski who was a dominating prep school player and came to BGSU after saying no to Arkansas & Maryland. RB Raishon Stover ran for over 2,000 yards as a senior and 36 TDs and finished 3rd in Ohio’s "Mr. Football Award." I saw him play in person and I can certainly testify to his abilities as both a strong runner with 4.5 speed and he is a quality receiver out of the backfield. He scoffed several MAC, Big Ten & Big East schools to play for the Falcons. The DBs in this class all have high impact capabilities, especially Tim Arnold, Jelani Jordan & Terrill Mayberry. WR Reggie Corner is another top prospect from Canton McKinley who have seen in person and his speed (4.45) and bit-play making capabilities will certainly get him some playing time right away. QB Omar Jacobs was a standout player from the Fort Lauderdale area and earned 2nr team all-state honors this past season in Florida. He passed for over 1,000 yards alone during the state playoffs. OL Derrick Markay from the Detroit area was a top 40 player in that state and is a load at 6’5’’ 334 pounds. Several strong "sleepers" that should produce down the line for this program are TE Steve Navarro, RB P.J. Pope, and a mulit-talented athlete named Will Myles. Coach Meyer’s former recruiting areas while an assistant coach at Notre Dame was Georgia and Florida. He continued those recruiting ties by mining out seven players from those states.Analysis: Bowling Green benefited for several reasons in this high quality recruiting class. These include the coaching staff doing a terrific job at selling that this program is a winner, immediate playing time at some positions, and moving over from the East division to the West, and competing for a divisional championship right away. So many players stick out in this class as immediate impact players and several others will do very well when their time comes in two or three years. Overall I rate this class as EXCELLENT compared to the other MAC schools, and if Coach Meyer continues to bring in this kind of talent every year an 8-3 season like last year will become common place in this tradition rich program.
