BALL STATE The View: Coach Bill Lynch signed 22 players from seven states in a recruiting class considered by most to be one of Ball State’s best ever. Size, speed, and playmaking abilities were the emphasis and the Cardinal’s coaches found that in these players. The skilled positions are what really stick out Ball State and Larry Bostic, Derek Broussard, Chris Jackson & Vincent Davis, are some of these key players. Bostic originally gave a verbal to Toledo, but changed his mind just days before signing with Ball State on February 6th. He has 4.4 speed and accounted for nearly 1,600 all-purpose yards. He can return punts, kickoffs, play WR or RB. Also in the playmaker roll is Derek Broussard who was listed as a top-15 WR by one recruiting service in Texas. He brings some size to the perimeter along with good speed. Davis is project to be a LB, has recorded 32 sacks over of the past two years and had several offers from C-USA, Sun Belt and MAC schools. Chris Jackson is a hometown hero who recorded nearly 1,700 yards receiving and 20 TDs as a senior. Listed by some as the top WR in Indiana this past year, his brother Patrick plays basketball for the Cardinals. Speaking of bloodlines, Joey Lynch, the coaches son, is listed here, and brings a strong resume with him along with a lot of talent. Linemen Justin Schneider, Justin Schwighardt, Kris Anastopoulos and Mike Brown, should help this program continue to get bigger and stronger in the trenches while Tom Kellar and Eric Keys bring more playmaking abilities to defensive skilled positions. The only difficult news by the coaching staff on national signing day was that DE Justin Frye, a highly decorated player from Elmwood, Indiana, signed with the Hosiers instead of Ball State. Finally, Brad Seiss is a talented player who rushed for over 3,900 yards in his high school career, with 68 TDs and 10 INTs on defense. He had several offers and should be a quality player for Ball State as either a RB or a DB/OLB on defense. One of the many true playmakers and quality athletes that the Cardinals brought in with this class."Analysis: The Cardinals did a great job at landing good talent from their home state, and then branching into states like Florida, Missouri, Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin for more help. With this broad base of recruiting, the Cardinals did a wonderful job at adding better talent to this program to position the Cardinals to a championship level. I rate this class as EXCELLENT compared to other MAC schools this year and this class has to be considered outstanding by Ball State fans who have been following this program over the years.
