Overview:BGSU rode the wave of a MAC West divisional championship, top-25 finish,
bowl victory, and ESPN College Game Day experience, to signed 18 standout
prospects.This class has talent
and the majority of these players come from winning programs.According to Coach Brandon, their junior/senior high school career
win/loss records for this class is 323-101.That is incredible.Anthony
Turner is the headliner of this group as the Falcons fought off Iowa, Illinois
& West Virginia for his services.He
was rated the #9 player in Ohio and the #19 QB prospect in the nation.Six of these players played in state championship games and thirteen were
named to their respected all-state honors.This was a very balanced class that features ten linemen.
Highlights:
The
Falcons went head-to-head with many quality programs but certainly have to
be happy that they won recruiting battles against their arch-rival Toledo
for the services of Erique Dozier, Lance Latkiewicz & Nate Waldron.They also signed Toledo native and a quality playmaker, Edwin Hood.
In
an effort to stop the run better, Coach Brandon and his staff brought in
some talent and some beef for the interior defensive line.Brandon Curtis, Nicholas Davis, Jeff Fink & Lance Latkiewicz will
be asked to contribute early in their careers.Toss in some very talented and speedy defensive ends, namely Diyral
Biggs, Brandon Mack & Joe Schaeffer, and the Falcons have a bright
future in the defensive trenches.
Two
interesting players brought in with this class are from the Pittsburgh area.QB/Athlete Peter Winovich was an all-state performer and showed his
talents both running and passing the ball.DB Nate Waldron was the offensive player of the year within his high
school conference as a junior, then the defensive player of the year as a
senior.
Andrew
Campbell was named “Mr. Football for an Offensive Lineman” in Indiana.LB Andrew Allen was a top-40 player in Michigan while Edwin Hood was
the Toledo City League POY while Erigue Dozier was he Akron City League POY.
Final Thoughts:
The Falcons did a super job finding talent in Ohio and
throughout the Midwest.This is by
far the best BGSU class I have reported on, and quite possibly, the best overall
class in school history.To get so
much talent up front and to beat so many quality football programs while signing
Anthony Turner was a real coup for this program.Brandon and his staff sold a family atmosphere, coaching
stability and the return to winning championships, to get these young men to
commit.Immediate needs and depth,
along with a few ‘diamonds in the rough’ make this class very solid and most
deserving of an OUTSTANDING
rating.
