Sleepers in the 2009 BG Recruiting Class:

  • John Pettigrew, RB, 5-10, 185, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio (CVCA)

Earned the Cleveland Plain Dealer Offensive Player of the Year Award after rushing for nearly 6,400 yards during his prep career, ranking eighth best all-time. Excellent power for a player of his size. Chose BG over Akron, Toledo and Kent State among others. If he was two-inches taller, he would be at Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame or one of the super power programs.

  • Mark Mays, RB, 5-10, 170, Dayton, OH (Clayton Northmont)

Ohio High lists him as the 78th overall from the state of Ohio while Ohio Preps has him ranked as the ninth-best running back in the state. Excellent speed.

Final Analysis of BG:

BGSU Football During the coaching change from Greg Brandon to Dave Clawson the Falcons did lose a few recruits to rival MAC programs. But by mid-January, the new coaching staff was off and running and signed a class that is considered EXCELLENT compared to other MAC schools. BG found some wonderful running back and defensive end prospects that should pay dividends right away. QB Matthew Schilz has the potential to be a star in this league. TE Alex Bayer is another recruit who is highly regarded as is WR Jordan Hopgood. There are several playmakers in this class who will contribute right away.
