2005 MAC Football Recruiting - Kent State FlashesOverview Kent State signed 24 student athletes from nine different states. KSU nabbed nine players from Ohio along with three from Florida & PA, two from Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia and one each from Alabama and California. Getting back to their Ohio roots was huge as the Golden Flashes have failed to recruit the Buckeye state well over the past several years. KSU brings in three JUCOs who look to contribute right away, most notably QB Michael Machen, the probable heir apparent to Joshua Cribbs who graduated. Machen signed with Alabama out of high school before playing minor league baseball. He ended up playing football again at Coffeyville CC. The class is made up of ten offensive players, thirteen defensive players and one kicking specialist. Greg Keys from Bellevue, Ohio is the highest overall rated recruit. Top Player - Greg Keys, RB/ATH
Highlights
Final Thoughts It’s good to see Kent State go after and get some quality players from Ohio again, something that has been missing from this program over the past several years. Without a doubt this is one of KSU’s best classes in many years. Players like James Brown, Shawn Lewis, Greg Keys, Michael Machen, Reid Macko, Augustus Parrish, Lester Troutman and Mark Woodson could play right away. Coach Doug Martin has this team believing they can not only compete but actually win a MAC championship. This is the type of class that lays down that foundation and even though it rates as GOOD compared to other MAC programs this year. There are some solid players in this class who will contribute and make a positive impact to this program. Name Pos. Ht. Wt.
