2005 MAC Football Recruiting - Eastern Michigan EaglesOverview The Eagles signed 23 players from six states. A heavy emphasis was on their home state as 11 players were signed from Michigan. Other areas tapped were Florida (5), Ohio (3), Texas (2) and one each from Oklahoma and Indiana. Of the home-state players acquired, 10 were rated as top-50 players in Michigan, including LB Spencer Smith, a top-15 rated prospect and Terrence Blevins, a "Jerome Bettis" type of banging RB. Both could play as true freshmen this fall. Overall 14 players are initially suited for offense with nine on defense. A heavy emphasis was on both RB and DB as the coaching staff inked 5 new prospects for each position. EMU also signed 3 QBs and 4 linemen. Top Player - Spencer Smith, OLB
Highlights
Final Thoughts When Coach Genyk arrived at EMU last year he constantly stated he wanted this program to have “Motor City” toughness, filled with quality Michigan players mainly from the Detroit area. Genyk certainly has his program entrenched in the Detroit area high schools and landed a superb class especially when you consider EMU’s lack of football tradition. It’s difficult to remember a better class at Eastern than this one over the past 12 to 15 years. Overall this group rates as EXCELENT compared to other MAC schools and if Genyk and his staff continue to bring in players like this, it won’t be long until they are a true contender in the west division.
