Miami signed another quality class consisting of 16 players from six states with none of these hailing from Ohio.Miami looked for speed and got it, along with some quality playmakers on both ends.Six players from this class will be taking part in the Ohio North/South all-star game and four more will be playing the prestigious “Big 33” game between Ohio prep players against PA prep players this summer.
Highlights
Signed Ohio Division I Offensive Player of the Year Brandon Murphy from Strongsville (OH) who rushed for over 7,000 career yards and was the state’s offensive player of the year & the Division IV Defensive Player of the Year-Darren Paige from Rossford (OH).
Got two quality offensive linemen in Jared Evans who turned down srong recruiting efforts by Indiana & Purdue and Charles Norden who turned down Maryland to come to Oxford.
DE/OLB Tranaine Sills led the state of Florida with 27 QB sacks this fall.
RB Austin Sykes was rated by Rivals.com as the #51 RB in the country, brings some size back to the Miami backfield.
With so much depth now being built up at the RB position, look for Jerome Bennett to be a ILB in the future, who was a solid tackler in his prep career at Southfield High near Detroit.
Final Thoughts
This class is typical of Miami over the years. It’s well balanced, has good size and speed, and is full of quality character kids as well.I was not fond of Miami’s class last year, even though it was small, but I really like this year’s crop. This class rates as VERY GOOD bordering on EXCELLENT compared to other MAC schools this year.
