Bowling Green @ Boise State

Notes:

  • Boise State extended the nation's longest home winning streak to 26 games
  • BG’s Omar Jacobs completed 18 of 36 passes for 220 yards, including 71 in the fourth quarter. He had never completed less than 58 percent of his passes, and his career low in yardage, 218, came in his first start at Oklahoma last season
  • The Broncos' starters scored on eight of 10 possessions and were stopped only by a fumble on fourth down and halftime
  • Boise State had 499 total yards at the end of the third quarter and didn't punt until the 8:26 mark of the fourth quarter
  • Boise State avoided falling to 0-3 for the first time in its history
  • The Broncos piled up 337 yards rushing
  • BSU controlled the clock holding on to the ball for over 27 minutes to just 22 for BG
  • Attendance in Boise was 30,561

Eastern Michigan @ Central Michigan

attendance @ Kelly Shorts Stadium in Mount Pleasant, Michigan: 15,013

Notes:

  • EMU’s Andrew Wellock kicked three field goals, including the game winner – he missed attempts from 41 and 49 yards in the first quarter but made the 36-yard kick in OT
  • The Eagles forced a fumble in the Chippewas' lone overtime possession to take Central out of field goal range
  • Wellock made a 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter before capping a 19-play, 76-yard drive with a 19-yard kick in the final seconds to force overtime
  • Eastern's defense came up big with a fourth down stand at its own 21-yard line with four minutes left in the game, resulting in the drive that led to the tying field goal
  • Ontario Sneed, who ran for 122 yards for the Chippewas and one TD and added 5 receptions for 56 yards
  • Matt Bohnet finished with 380 yards on 36-of-56 passing with two TDs and no interceptions
  • Eric Deslauriers had 10 catches for 135 yards, including a 49-yard reception early in the fourth quarter that led to Wellock's first score.
  • Kent Kent was 18-of-31 for 182 yards with no interceptions
  • Neither team had a turnover
  • Attendance in Mount Pleasant was 15,013

Notes:

  • Nate Meyer kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give Western Michigan a victory over winless Temple
  • The Broncos stormed the field to celebrate their first two-game winning streak since the 2003 season
  • Temple a botched extra point attempt that came back to haunt them
  • The game lasted 4 hours
  • Trovon Riley ran for 91 yards for Western Michigan and Tony Scheffler caught seven passes for 118 yards
  • Temple 's Umar Ferguson rushed for 110 yards
  • Western’s Ryan Cubit was seriously hurt when he was hit on a completed pass late in the third quarter
  • The Owls haven't won since beating Syracuse on November 13, 2004
  • WMU had 5 turnovers while Temple had 3
  • Attendance in Philadelphia was recorded as 8,922 but an AP article reported attendance at just 1,500

Kent State @ Ohio

attendance @ Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio: 16,721

Notes:

  • Kalvin McRae rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns and Voncarie Owens ran for 139 yards and two scores to lead Ohio to a 35-32 win against Kent State
  • The Bobcats widened their lead to 35-18 on Owens' 75-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter
  • KSU’s Najah Pruden had 7 receptions for 200 yards
  • The Golden Flashes got within 35-32 with 1:54 to play and the onside kick attempt was recovered by Kent ’s Cameron Bobb, but it did not travel the required 10 yards and Ohio ran out the clock
  • The win was Frank Solich's first in Mid-American Conference play.
  • Ohio rushed for 373 yards and had 518 total yards while Kent State passed for 388 yards and 460 total yards
  • Kent State threw 6 INTs as a team, five by Michael Machen
  • True freshman Jon Brown ( Westlake , OH ) led a furious comeback for KSU passing for 106 yards (15-19-1) with one TD
  • Attendance in Athens was 16,721

Northern Illinois @ Akron

attendance @ the Rubber Bowl in Akron, Ohio: 15,621

Notes:

  • Brett Biggs scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in overtime and Akron overcame Northern Illinois ' 21-point 4th quarter comeback to win 48-42
  • NIU’s Phil Horvath's produced three touchdown passes in the final period with the final one coming on an 11-play, 96-yard drive in 1:37, capped by Horvath's 24-yard pass to Britt Davis with :13 left
  • NIU got the ball first in overtime and failed to score when Horvath was intercepted by Dionte Henry
  • Akron took possession and Luke Getsy completed a 24-yard pass to Biggs who then scored from a yard out a play later for the win
  • Getsy was 20 of 39 passing for 406 yards and five touchdowns, including two to Jason Montgomery who led Akron with 114 yards receiving
  • Biggs rushed for 94 yards and had 73 yards receiving and a touchdown catch
  • Getsy's touchdowns throws included a 78-yarder to Montgomery and a 79-yarder to Dennis Kenn
  • Horvath was 39-of-52 for 486 yards and six touchdowns
  • NIU’s Sam Hurd finished with 139 yards receiving and three touchdowns
  • Attendance in Akron was 15,612
