REDSHIRT REVIEW
Redshirt freshman James Starks dashed 18 yards for a touchdown for a 9-3 win in Buffalo’s opener at home vs. Temple. The victory marked the debut of head coaches for both teams – Turner Gill at Buffalo and Al Golden at Temple. It marked the Bulls first season-opening win since joining the I-A ranks in 1999. Temple played 11 true freshmen in the game. Another redshirt frosh, quarterback Dan LeFevour of Central Michigan, came off the bench and accounted for 293 yards of total offense in his first collegiate game in a 31-24 loss to Boston College. His 72 rushing yards were a game-high and included a 41-yard run on third and four in the first quarter that set up a field goal. He threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Ontario Sneed on third-and-10 midway through the third quarter to pull CMU within 17-10, then scored on runs of two yards and one-yard in the fourth quarter to cut the Boston College lead from 31-10 to 31-24. He was 7-for-10 passing for 106 yards on the final two scoring drives. In his first collegiate game and start, Freddie Barnes (redshirt freshman) set a Bowling Green rushing record for a quarterback by gaining 158 yards on 29 carries with 2 TDs in the Falcons 35-14 loss against Wisconsin. He also completed 12 of 19 passes for 82 yards. Barnes scored on runs of 21 and 2 yards for BGSU. He broke the old mark of 148 yards set by Josh Harris against Ohio on November 10, 2001.
