Nick’s Picks for Week #10 - MAC Football

> Nicks MAC Football picks - Follow @VandelaySports

MAC Football Notes:

  • Kent State earned its first win over a ranked opponent as the Flashes defeated No. 15 ranked Rutgers with a 35-23 commanding road victory; the win marked the second consecutive week for the MAC to top a ranked opponent from the Big East Conference as Toledo previously beat ranked Cincinnati. This season, the MAC has a 4-4 record vs. Big East opponents
  • The MAC’s top four programs ( Toledo, Northern Illinois, Kent State and Ohio) have a combined 30-4 record. Along with Ball State and Bowling Green, both at 6-3 records, the MAC already has six teams bowl eligible
  • Its rivalry week in the MAC as Akron travels 14 miles to Kent State this Saturday at 2 pm ET (SportsTime Ohio/ESPN Game Plan/ESPN3) and Western Michigan visits Central Michigan at 1 pm ET (ESPN3)
  • MAC midweek football begins this week with the first of six midweek games during the month of November. Eastern Michigan will visit Ohio on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6 pm ET (ESPNU)
  • Miami QB Zac Dysert became the program’s career total offense leader and needs 75 more yards to become the school’s career passing leader, surpassing Ben Roethlisberger
  • Miami ’s Nick Harwell contributed to Miami’s 23-20 victory against 23rd-ranked Ohio by catching eight passes for 138 yards, a 54-yard touchdown pass from Zac Dysert and marked the 13th time in his career that he has caught a pass of 40 yards or more and was his 14th career game of 100 yards or more
  • Central’s Zurlon Tipton rushed his way into the Central Michigan football records books with career highs in yards (243), attempts (37), and touchdowns (3) to help lead the Chippewas past Akron, 35-14. Tipton’s 243 yards is tied for eighth all-time on Central Michigan’s single game rushing list and makes him the first to break the 200-yard barrier on the ground since 2010
  • Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch accounted for a season high six touchdowns in Northern Illinois’ 48-34 win over Western Michigan as he tied his career high with four touchdown passes and ran for two more. Lynch had 410 yards of offense, his second best total of the year and the 10th best total in school history
  • Toledo RB David Fluellen rushed for a career-high 228 yards and two touchdowns on 35 carries in a 25-20 win at Buffalo as he passed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career
  • Kent State OT Brian Winters helped five ball carriers combine for 242 rushing yards in the Flashes’ 35-23 victory at Rutgers going 15-of-22 on pass attempts, the offensive line did not allow a sack for the third time in their last four games
  • Buffalo WR Alex Neutz had six catches for 135 yards and a touchdown in a 25-20 loss to Toledo
  • Ohio QB Tyler Tettleton logged his fourth career 300-yard passing game as he finished with 302 yards passing in a 23-20 loss at Miami. Tettleton’s 300-yard passing effort moved him into second place all-time in career passing yards
  • Western Michigan WR Eric Monette had a career high eight receptions, 142 yards and two TDs in a 48-34 loss to Northern Illinois. It was the first 100-yard receiving yard game of his career and registering his first career multi-TD game
  • With four MAC programs with only one loss, the collective efforts of Toledo (8-1), Northern Illinois (8-1), Ohio (7-1) and Kent State (7-1) at a combined record of 30-4 are certainly getting noticed; all four programs received votes in both the AP Top 25 Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll. Despite nationally ranked Ohio falling 23-20 to Miami and getting knocked out of the BCS Standings and several national polls, the Bobcats were one of four programs to receive votes.
