MAC Football Notes:

  • Ohio (7-0) ranks No. 25 in the AP Top 25 Poll and the Bobcats are one of 12 teams in college football undefeated. Ohio quarterback Tyler Tettleton became the program’s all-time leader in touchdown passes (40) in the Bobcats 34-28 win over Akron

  • Kent State ’s Dri Archer leads the country in kickoff return average (47.3), kickoff returns for touchdowns (3) and all-purpose yardage (229.17) per game

  • Toledo’s 52-47 win at Eastern Michigan saw the two programs combine for 99 points and 1,279 yards of total offense, which ranks as the third most combined yards in a single-game in conference history…Rockets receiver Bernard Reedy set the school record with 237 yards receiving, while Eagles running back Bronson Hill rushed for 283 yards rushing and a school record four touchdowns

  • MAC programs host two Big East opponents and Army this Saturday…undefeated Cincinnati will visit the Glass Bowl in Toledo to face the 6-1 Rockets while Pittsburgh travels to Buffalo…Army will visit Eastern Michigan

  • Toledo WR Bernard Reedy set a school single game record with 237 yards receiving and two touchdowns in a 52-47 win over Eastern Michigan

  • Bowling Green RB Anthon Samuel had 196 yards from scrimmage, adding one touchdown, in the Falcons’ 37-12 win over Miami; he posted a career-high 171 yards on the ground and added three catches for 25 yards and a touchdown through the air

  • Western Michigan RB Dareyon Chance registered the third 100-yard rushing effort of his career, with 114 yards on the ground on 11 carries, in a 30-24 (OT) loss at Ball State averaging 10.5 yards per carry and paced WMU to 222 rushing yards for the team’s third 200-yard rushing effort of the season

  • Ball State RB Jahwan Edwards rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries and a tied a career high three touchdowns in a 30-24 (OT) win over Western Michigan. Edwards scored the game-winning touchdown in the first overtime period

  • Northern Illinois WR Martel Moore caught eight passes for 133 yards including a 43-yard touchdown in a 45-3 win over Buffalo; his eight catches tied his career high and he recorded his third 100-yard receiving game of the season

  • Akron RB Jawon Chisholm tallied his third-straight 100-yard rushing game in Akron’s 34-28 loss at Ohio. He posted a season high 177 yards on 28 carries and also had five catches for 55 yards to compile 232 yards of total offense

  • Ohio QB Tyler Tettleton was 13-of-27 for 150 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-28 win over Akron. He also had a touchdown reception, the first of his career, in the first quarter

Notes: Bowling Green beat Miami 37-12 and was the Falcons’ first at home over the RedHawks since 1997...RB Anthon Samuel posted a career-high 171 rushing yards and now has nine 100-yard games in his career...DT Chris Jones now has 24.5 career sacks...BooBoo Gates now has five career touchdowns with two coming via interception return and kick return and has one punt return for a score. UMass had a bye weekend...Lost 52-14 at Western Michigan on Oct. 6...After averaging nearly 500 offensive yards over the previous two games, UMass was held to just 218 yards - the fewest since the Michigan game when they were held to 259 total yards...WR Deion Walker had nine catches for 81 yards giving him 29 catches over the last four games.

Notes: NIU defeated Buffalo 45-3 and won its 11th straight MAC game to extend the nation’s-longest conference win streak and extended its school record home winning streak to 19 games...Huskies defense held an opponent without a touchdown for the first time since Nov. 26, 2010, when the Huskies defeated Eastern Michigan 71-3. The Zips suffered a 34-28 loss at Ohio...RB Jawon Chisholm has rushed for at least 100 yards in three-straight games and four times this season...LB Kurt Mangum posted his third double-digit tackle performance of the season and second in as many games...Zips play two of the next three games on the road (vs. Northern Illinois; at Central Michigan; at Kent State).

Comment: Don’t under estimate the Zips who continually improve every week, they will knock off a quality MAC team before the season is over


Army at Eastern Michigan

Notes: Army lost 31-17 to Kent State...Army has lost six straight games to MAC

opponents...Black Knights are now 8-70 since 2002 when trailing at halftime...Army ran for 325 yards, its fourth game with at least 300 yards on the ground...The Black Knights threw for 132 yards, their highest output since 149 yards against Kent State on Nov. 13, 2010. EMU suffered a 52-47 loss to Toledo...RB Bronson Hill had 283 yards rushing on 28 carries to go along with an EMU record-tying four touchdowns...It also marked the second best rushing effort in school history...QB Tyler Benz completed 18-of-27 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns...TE Garrett Hoskins added seven catches for 103 yards.

Comment: This pick is a bit of a stretch but if the Eagles play anything like they did against Toledo last week they can win this game


Pittsburgh at Buffalo

Notes: Pittsburgh lost 45-35 to No. 18 Louisville...The 45 points scored by Louisville are the most allowed by Pitt since a 45-44 loss to Cincinnati at Heinz Field on 12/5/09...RB Ray Graham compiled 71 all-purpose yards (20 rushing and 51 receiving) and now ranks second all-time at Pitt with 4,173 career all-purpose yards. Buffalo suffered a 45-3 loss at Northern Illinois...LB Khalil Mack led the defensive effort with 10 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and LB Lee Skinner added six tackles...QBs Alex Zordich and Joe Licata combined to throw for 263 yards...Bulls played the last three games on the road and play the next four consecutive games at home (Pittsburgh; Toledo; Miami; Western Michigan).

Comment: The Bulls are showing no signs of being competitive in this game



Ball State at Central Michigan

Western Michigan scoreless for a span of 35 minutes from the 5:01 mark of the second quarter until the Broncos’ game-tying field goal on the final play of regulation...RB Jahwan Edwards finished with 138 rushing yards and 3 TDs. Central Michigan suffered a 31-13 loss to Navy...WR Cody Wilson extended his consecutive games with a catch streak to 35 games, the third longest

streak in the NCAA...WR Titus Davis scored a touchdown in his fourth straight game today, hauling in a 29-yard scoring pass late in the second quarter... Davis has totaled 13 touchdown receptions in just 18 career games.

Notes: Western Michigan lost at Ball State 30-24 (OT)...Broncos played its first

overtime game since Oct. 24, 2009 (34-31 win vs. Buffalo) and suffered their first OT loss since falling to Ball State in five overtimes, 60-57, on Oct. 8, 2005...RB Dareyon Chance topped the 100-yard mark (116) for the third time this year. Kent State beat Army 31-17 to improve to 5-1 for the first time since 1973 and only the third time since 1940...Flashes won three straight road games for the first time since 2006 and won a non-conference road game for the first time since

2007 (Iowa State)...RB Dri Archer ran for a career-high 222 yards, marked the first time to top 200 yards rushing since 2007 (Eugene Jarvis).

Notes: Cincinnati beat Fordham 49-17...UC has won eight consecutive games

(dating back to last season) for the first time in the Butch Jones era and the first time since starting the 2009 season at 12-0...Bearcats compiled 472 yards of total offense against Fordham and have topped at least 425 yards of total offense in each of their five contests this season. Toledo defeated Eastern Michigan 52-47 and improve to 6-1, its best start since 2005...Rockets finished with a season-high 655 yards of total offense (254 rushing, 401 passing) and now totaled at least 500 yards on three occasions this season...WR Bernard Reedy caught a career-high 11 passes for a school-record 237 yards.

Nick’s Pick: Cincy 55 – Toledo 49

Comment: Normally the Rockets beat their BCS foes in the Glass Bowl but considering Toledo’s dreadful defense this season (and since 2006) it’s hard to see them beating a quality top-25 team
