Ohio is off to the best start in program history since 1968; despite not getting into the AP Top 25 Poll, Ohio did receive 79 votes, the most of any program outside the AP Top 25

  • Miami QB Zac Dysert became the 78th player in NCAA FBS history to pass for over 10,000 career passing yards. Dysert finished with 303 yards and now has 10,246 career passing yards

  • Bowling Green earned the program’s 500th career victory with a 24-10 road win at Akron last Saturday

  • Kent State kick returner Dri Archer leads the nation in all-purpose yards per game (230.6 ypg). Archer added a 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown, a 64-yard touchdown run and a five-yard touchdown reception in a 41-14 win at Eastern Michigan

  • Toledo QB Terrance Owens completed 23-of-33 passes for 233 yards in a 50-35 win over Central Michigan. Owens rushed for 66 yards and two TDs, and broke off a 40-yard run late in the game to help clinch Toledo’s win

  • Western Michigan QB Tyler Van Tubbergen threw five touchdowns in a game for the second time in his career, becoming only the second quarterback in program history to accomplish the feat twice, in a 52-14 win over UMass. Van Tubbergen was 23-for-28, completing passes to 11 different receivers and throwing TD passes to five different receivers for a career high 283 yards

  • Ohio RB Ryan Boykin carried six times for 64 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter in the Bobcats’ 38-31 victory over Buffalo

  • Buffalo RB Devin Campbell made his first career start and ran for 160 yards and a touchdown in a 38-31 loss at Ohio; Campbell become just the second true freshman in the Bulls’ Division I-A era to rush for 100 yards in a game

  • Ball State QB Keith Wenning threw for 434 yards – the fourth most in school history – in Ball State’s 35-23 loss to Northern Illinois. Wenning was 42-of-71 passing and marked his second straight 400-yard plus passing performance…he set school records with 71 pass attempts (third most in MAC history) and 42 completions – breaking his own school record in both categories

  • KSU RB Trayion Durham ran for a career-high 116 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, all in the first three quarters as Kent State defeated Eastern Michigan 41-14. In his last two games, Durham has 207 yards rushing and four touchdowns

  • NIU QB Jordan Lynch rushed for a career high 207 yards on 29 carries and three touchdowns, and threw for 195 yards on 16-of-23 passing with one score, to lead Northern Illinois to its fifth straight win with a 35-23 win at Ball State. Nick’s Pick: Navy 34 – Central 21

Comment: The Chips will be competitive but under Dan Enos (8-21) they cannot seem to string together a winning streak

Kent State at Army

Saturday, October 13, 2012 • Noon ET • West Point, N.Y. • Michie Stadium (39,929) CBS College Sports; Series: Army leads 2-0

Nick’s Pick: Kent State 28 – Army 27

Comment: It’s extremely rare that KSU beats another IA team, any IA team, but if they are to do so, Army is one of those rare teams and this is one of those rare times

Akron at Ohio

Saturday, October 13, 2012 • 2:00 pm ET • Athens, Ohio • Peden Stadium (24,000); ESPN3

Series: Ohio leads 15-12-1

Nick’s Pick: Ohio 36 – Akron 34

Comment: The Bobcats seem to be playing to the level of their competition which is not earning them style points in the national polls

Nick’s Pick: Ball State 42 – Western 35

Comment: This game should be dubbed “the bowl elimination game” as the loser will be out of the MAC bowl picture while the winner will be in a nice position for some sort of post season action

Buffalo at Northern Illinois

Saturday, October 13, 2012 • 3:30 pm ET • DeKalb, Ill. • Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium (24,000); Comcast Sports Net Chicago • ESPN3 • ESPN Game Plan; Series: Northern Illinois leads 7-1

Nick’s Pick: BGSU 35 – Miami 27

Comment: Miami is a better team than their record but for some reason they just can’t seem to get it going under Don Treadwell
