MAC Football Notes:

  • Miami QB Zac Dysert set a conference single-game record with 624 yards of total offense and became the first player in NCAA FBS history to throw for 500 yards (516) and rush for 100 yards (108) in the same game in Miami’s 56-49 win at Akron

  • There were many high scoring games throughout the conference last Saturday. Miami and Akron combined for 1,334 total yards (2nd most in MAC history), 14 touchdowns (t-5th highest in MAC annals) and 107 points (t-8th most in the MAC); in five conference games, five teams scored 40 or more points and eight teams scored 30 or more points

  • Ohio improved to 5-0 on the year with the 37-34 win at UMass and despite not getting into the AP Top 25 Poll, the Bobcats did receive 30 votes

  • Toledo RB David Fluellen rushed for a career high 213 yards and 3 touchdowns on 21 carries in a 37-17 win at Western Michigan; Fluellen had scoring runs of 6, 53 and 22 yards and also caught five passes for 34 yards

  • UMass WR Alan Williams had a career-day with 7 catches for 127 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-34 loss to Ohio

  • Ohio RB Beau Blankenship rushed for a career-high 269 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-34 win at UMass. His 43 carries also tied a school record and also became just the sixth running back in the school history to rush for over 250 yards in a single game

  • Western Michigan WR Jaime Wilson registered his fourth 100-yard receiving game with 103 yards on 10 catches in a 37-17 loss to Toledo

  • Akron RB Jawon Chisholm compiled 210 all-purpose yards in Akron’s 56-49 loss to Miami. Chisholm posted 156 yards rushing yards off of 21 carries and scored two TDs on the ground

  • BGSU RB Anthon Samuel ran for 127 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in a 48-8 win over Rhode Island; Samuel added three catches for 42 yards through the air ending the contest with 169 total yards

  • Northern Illinois RB Leighton Settle ran for a career high 152 yards and scored three rushing touchdowns in a 55-24 win over Central Michigan. Settle averaged 6.6 yards per carry and his 152 yards were part of a 407-yard rushing day for Northern Illinois

Notes: Buffalo suffered a 24-17 loss at UConn...LB Lee Skinner had a career high 13 tackles to lead the defense...LB Khalil Mack had 3.5 tackles for loss to bring his season total 11 in three games...QB Alex Zordich threw for 220 yards and a touchdown, ran for a team-best 76 yards, and extended his streak of throwing a touchdown pass to four games. Ohio earned a 37-34 win at UMass...RB Beau Blankenship’s 43 carries and 269 rushing yards were both career-highs...His 269 yards rushing marked just the sixth time in school history to top 250 yards rushing...QB Tyler Tettleton cracked Ohio’s all-time top three in career completions after he finished by going 15-of-27...Tettleton currently ranks third with 357 career completions.

Comment: The Bobcats did not look very good last week and will play better at home as they try to crack the top-25

 

Kent State at Eastern Michigan

Notes: Kent State beat Ball State 45-43...KR Dri Archer had the second longest

kick return in program history, a 99-yarder...Golden Flashes are 2-0 in MAC play for the first time since 2006 and 3-1 overall for the first time since 1987...Dating back to 2010, Kent State is 10-4 at Dix Stadium...Kent State improved to 7-1 since last season when outgaining an opponent on the ground. The Eagles coming off a bye week...Play next three games at home ( Kent State, Toledo, Army)...In last effort, a 23-7 loss to Michigan State on Sept. 22, sophomore QB Tyler Benz made his first career start and was 13-26 passing for 137 yards and one TD...TE Garrett Hoskins led the team with a career-high 8 receptions for 102 yards.

Comment:Two programs in opposite directions this season; the Golden Flashes are soaring higher while the Eagles have some how been grounded after a break out 6-6 2011 season

Notes: Bowling Green beat Rhode Island 48-8...Falcons posted a season high

in points (48), first downs (30), yards rushing (206) and passing yards (332)...PR Boo Boo Gates 80 yard punt return for a touchdown was the fourth longest in school history...RB Anthon Samuel had his eighth 100-yard performance with 127 yards and three touchdowns. The Zips suffered a 56-49 loss to Miami...Akron had 629 yards of total offense, which marked the second effort of 600-plus yards this year (753 vs. Morgan State)...QB Dalton Williams tied a career-high as he threw for 446 yards and second-best in program history...Zips play two of the next three at home (vs. Bowling Green; at Ohio; vs. Northern Illinois).

Comment: This is a scary game for the Falcons as the Zips are playing better each and every week under Bowden; don’t be surprised if there is an Akron victory

Notes: UMass suffered a 37-34 loss to Ohio...QB Mike Wegzyn had a career high

373 yards passing and four touchdowns...WR Deion Walker also had a career-best 11 receptions for 162 yards and three scores...UMass converted 10-of-19 on third downs and produced three scoring drives of 80 yards or more. Western Michigan lost 37-17 to Toledo...Broncos saw its nine game home winning streak came to an end in the loss...Western Michigan collected 405 yards of total offense...Freshman WR Jaime Wilson had his fourth 100-yard receiving game with 103 yards on 10 receptions...This game marks the third consecutive home game for the Broncos.

Central Michigan at Toledo

Notes: Central Michigan suffered a 55-24 loss at Northern Illinois...QB Ryan

Radcliff reached the 300-yard plateau for the 11th time in his career with 332 yards passing...WR Cody Wilson had 8 receptions for 111 yards and moved in to sixth place in school history with 2,175 yards and fifth with 180 career receptions. Toledo defeated Western Michigan 37-17...Rockets are 16-2 in their last 18 league contests...Toledo had a commanding edge in total yards (521-405), rushing yards (278-173), passing yards (243-232), turnover margin (+4) and time of possession (33:08-26:52)...QB Terrance Owens was 22-33 passing for 243 yards and has 263 pass attempts without an interception.

Northern Illinois at Ball State

Notes: The Huskies defeated Central Michigan 55-24...Both QB Jordan Lynch (144) and RB Leighton Settle (152) rushed for over 100 yards on the day...Huskies had a season high 622 yards of offense...Victory extended the program’s home winning streak to 18 consecutive games...WR Martel Moore caught a touchdown pass for the fourth consecutive game. Cardinals suffered a 45-43 loss at Kent State...QB Keith Wenning passed for a career-high 445 yards and tied a program-best five TD passes...His 445 passing yards were second best in program history...Wenning was 32-of-43 passing and his 32 completions were the third highest in Ball State history.

Miami’s 56 points were the most since 2003...QB Zac Dysert set a conference record with 624 yards of total offense and became the first QB in the NCAA FBS history to throw for over 500 yards (516) and rush for over 100 yards (108) in the same game. Cincinnati defeated Virginia Tech 27-24...QB Munchie Legaux set a career high with 376 yards on 19-of-42 passing and matched a career-high with three touchdowns...LB Maalik Bomar set a career high with 16 tackles and LB Greg Blair set a career high with 13 tackles.

Comment: Until the last decade the RedHawks dominated this local non-conference rivalry, now the Bearcats have the upper hand and certainly seem to again this year
