MAC Football Notes:

  • Ohio improved to 3-0 on the season with a 27-24 victory over Marshall. Matt Weller’s field goal with 97 seconds left put the `Cats ahead for good and a late Jelani Woseley interception sealed the victory; with the win, Ohio has started 2-0 on the road for the first time since 1976…this victory marks the second straight season in which the Bobcats have opened with three straight wins and also marked the first time Ohio had beaten the Thundering Herd in back-to-back seasons since 1979 and 1980

  • Ohio quarterback Tyler Tettleton moved into fourth place all-time in the Ohio record books for career completions, going 20-of-35 through the air for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Bobcats running back Beau Blankenship led the Bobcats rushing 30 times for 107 yards

  • NIU QB Jordan Lynch, who threw for a career high 342 yards and added 125 rushing yards on 13 carries…his 467 yards of total offense is the third-highest total in school history

  • Ball State defeated Big Ten foe Indiana 41-39 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium on a game winning 42-yard field goal by Steven Schott as time expired; the game would come down to the fourth quarter, after Indiana scored a touchdown with 49 seconds left in the contest after a six-play, 77-yard drive

  • Toledo QB Terrance Owens completed 20-of-28 passes for 303 yards to lead Toledo to a 27-15 victory over arch-rival Bowling Green before a capacity crowd of 28,115 at the Glass Bowl; the victory was the Rockets’ third straight vs. the Falcons

  • Akron head coach Terry Bowden got his first win at UA in record fashion as the Zips set or tied six team and two individual school records, in addition to one conference mark, in a 66-6 win over Morgan State; Akron’s 66 points and 753 yards of total offense broke a nine-year mark set on Sept. 20, 2003, against Howard (65 points, 692 yards)…the Zips also finished with a program-best 43 first downs, also in that contest against Howard. UA set a school record for completions as well with 44 and set the program and MAC mark for passing yards (565) posting the third-most offensive yards in league history with 753

Nick’s Pick: V-Tech 33 – BGSU 16

Comment: The Hokies were shocked by a very bad Pitt team last week and need someone to take their frustrations out on, sadly BG is up next. The Falcons defense is good enough to keep them in the game.

Nick’s Pick: UConn 28 – Western 20

Comment: Huskie coach Paul Pasqualoni is not flashy but he is a very good coach who had a lot of success at Syracuse in the 1990s. Expect a tight game and yes this is a game the Broncos should and could win – will they though?

Norfolk State at Ohio

Saturday, September 22, 2012 • 2:00 pm ET • Athens, Ohio • Peden Stadium (24,000) ESPN3
