2011 MAC Football Picks - Week #9 Preview
…Nick’s Picks went 4-2 last week and now stand at 59-17 on the season…
This Week’s Games:
Central Michigan (2-6, 1-3 MAC) at Akron (1-6, 0-3 MAC)
Saturday, October 29, 2011 • Noon ET • Akron, Ohio • InfoCision Stadium--Summa Field (27,881); ESPN Plus • ESPN Game Plan • ESPN3; Series: Central Michigan leads 13-9-1
Nick’s Pick: Central 36 – Akron 24
Comment: Time is running out for Akron to win a MAC game this year and this may be the last chance outside of their annual pillow fight with Kent State. Central can score points while Akron cannot and neither team can defend as each gives up around 34-35 points per contest. Central is dead last in the MAC in turnover ratio which is Akron’s saving grace this week. Assuming the sticky jell is working for the Chips look for Central to get win #3.
Bowling Green (4-4, 2-2 MAC) at Kent State (1-6, 0-3 MAC)
Saturday, October 29, 2011 • 1:00 pm ET • Kent, Ohio • Dix Stadium (25,000); Streamed live via ww.mac-sports.com; Series: BGSU leads 55-17-6
Nick’s Pick: BGSU 34 – Kent State 10
Comment: This may be the most lopsided long-standing rivalry in the MAC as the Falcons have dominated the Flashes for decades. BG averages 27-points per game, Kent State 10; BG is giving up 27 per game while Kent State is 28. Bottom line, KSU just can’t score points.
Ball State (5-3, 3-1 MAC) at Western Michigan (4-4, 2-2 MAC)
Saturday, October 29, 2011 • 2:00 pm ET • Kalamazoo, Mich. • Waldo Stadium (30,200); Streamed live via www.mac-sports.com; Series: Western Michigan leads 20-17
Nick’s Pick: Western 23 – Ball State 21
Comment: Will the real Western Michigan Broncos please stand up? Is the Western team that beat UConn, BGSU, Central Michigan and nearly beat Illinois going to show this week or the team that has played two straight stinkers against NIU & Eastern? Ball State has been a pleasant surprise this season but has only won one road game to date. In a game that may be a deciding factor of who receives one of the MAC’s aligned bowl agreements, Western seems the logical choice to earn a home victory.
Buffalo (2-6, 1-3 MAC) at Miami (2-5, 1-2 MAC)
Saturday, October 29, 2011 • 3:30 pm ET • Oxford, Ohio • Yager Stadium (24,286); SportsTime Ohio • Time Warner Cable SportsNet Buffalo • ESPN Game Plan • ESPN3 • Streamed via www.mac-sports.com; Series: Miami leads 11-2
Nick’s Pick: Buffalo 31 – Miami 28
Comment: Probably the toughest games to pick this week as both teams are better than their record indicates. Buffalo’s Chazz Anderson is really coming of age in his one brief season while Brandon Oliver is a solid RB. UB has lost two heartbreakers this year so you have to think something will go their way soon. Miami just can’t seem to get going this season and has had 14 turnovers this season which ranks 11 th of 13 in the league.
