Below are the VanDelay picks for the MAC All-Tournament team.
DeAndre Haynes - Kent State
The conference POTY hasn't put up the gaudy stats that some may have expected, but he's still done an admirable job of running the Kent offense. Although marred in foul trouble for much of the Golden Flashes' quarterfinal and semifinal victories, Haynes still managed to put up an average of 10 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, and just 1.5 turnovers. What doesn't show up in the stat sheet is the defense that Haynes has played on the opposing point guard over the past two nights in Cleveland. The struggles of Calvin Cage and Antonio Chatman are probably a major reason that Kent is playing in the MAC Championship Game.
Florentino Valencia - Toledo
Valencia has been the Toledo's main post option for much of this year, and his impressive play has continued throughout the tournament. In three games this tournament, Valencia is averaging just over 14 points and 7 rebounds per game. Valencia looks to be a little undersized to be an effective post-player in this league, but don't let his height or his vertical jump fool you. Valencia has displayed a nose for the hoop all tournament long, and has outrebounded bigger players all week long.
Michael Scott - Kent State
The athletic sophomore has shown a lot of improvement throughout the year, culminating with his play in the tournament this week. Starting with 3 seniors and 1 junior, Scott certainly hasn't been the main option on offense, nor has he been the only post presence on the glass for the Golden Flashes, but Scott has added rebounding and scoring when needed. In two games, Scott is averaging just over 10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 block per game. Look for him to add to these stats in the MACC as the match-up versus Toledo very much favors a player with his skill-set.
Justin Ingram - Toledo
This one is a no brainer as Ingram has looked excellent throughout the tournament. Averaging over 20 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and only a little over 2 turnovers a game, Ingram is a big reason that Toledo has upset both Northern Illinois and Akron in advancing to the MAC Championship game. If Toledo beats Kent State, you'd have to think that Ingram will be major part of it, and ultimately be a favorite for Player of the Tournament.
Michael Green - Ohio
In Ohio's three MAC Tournament games, Green averaged 19.3 points and 4 rebounds per game. In the Bobcats' loss to Kent in the semifinals, it was Green's inspired play that gave the Bobcats any glimmer of hope. As Green made two of his three 3-point shots down the stretch in that game, Kent eventually proved to be too much for the Bobcats. The senior guard from Columbus, Ohio finished the tournament with 13 3-point shots.
Honorable Mention
Romeo Travis, Akron
Jay Youngblood, Kent State
