Akron rides dominating second half to win over Ohio, headed to NCAA Tournament for 3rd time in 5 years

The 2013 MAC Basketball Tournament Championship was a tale of two halves. The first half saw the two evenly matched opponents trade punches as Ohio lead 29-26 at the half. But the second half was all Akron as the Bobcats shooting went cold and the struggles of DJ Cooper in the first half were unable to be covered by his teammates. In the end Akron's 44% shooting was more than enough to beat the Bobcats 65-46 in the tournament final.

The different of the two halves was apparent in the stats as Akron held the Bobcats to just 17 points in the second half. In fact, Ohio's 46 points were a season low and just the second time that they had been held under 50 points all season.

The win for the #1 seeded Akron Zips marks their 3rd in 5 years as Keith Dambrot has had the Zips in the MAC Championship Game in each of the past 7 years. After 2 NCAA Tournament appearances and 3 NCAA Tournament wins in that time the Bobcats appear headed to the NIT.
