Western Michigan, Kent State advance to semifinals of 2013 MAC Tournament

The 2013 MAC Basketball Tournament continued on Thursday night with two quarterfinal games featuring two favorites who proved their records and seeds were deserved. Now down to just four teams left, the semifinals take place on Friday night with the 2013 MAC Basketball Championship Game televised live on ESPN2 on Saturday evening.

#8 seed Buffalo proved to be a tough out once again leading 5th seeded Kent State 32-30 at the half. The Bulls, who always make things difficult for their opponents in the MAC Tournament no matter their record, lead 61-60 with just over two minutes left. In the end, Kent State was able to hold on for the win 70-68 and earn a shot at #1 seed Akron in the early game on Friday night, live on SportsTime Ohio.

In the late game fans were treated to a battle of the state of Michigan as #3 seed Western Michigan topped #7 seed Eastern Michigan 70-55. EMU was able to keep the game close in the first half, but a 21-3 different in free throw attempts proved to be a key stat in this one. The Broncos move on to the semifinals to face #2 seed Ohio in Friday's late game.

Quicken Loans Arena will be buzzing again Friday night with hopes of a stronger crowd that Thursday's 3,361 announced attendance. With Akron facing Kent State, the two closest schools geographically, and the Ohio Bobcats, the highest attended school in the MAC, all still in the running the MAC offices must be expecting a significant boost for the weekend in terms of attendance.
